THE WESTPORT LIBRARY ASSOCIATION ENDORSES A NEW POLICY FOR 2024
LOW MOW SPRING
FOR THE LIBRARY LAWN
IT’S A GOOD THING TO LET THE WILDFLOWERS GROW! We’re experimenting by designating areas of the library lawn for perennial plants to bloom this spring; offering food for emerging insects.
WE’RE DOING OUR BIT TO PROMOTE THE HEALTH OF POLLINATORS by refraining from completely mowing the Westport Library lawn before Memorial Day, while still offering access to visitors. You can continue to enjoy the area of level lawn along Main Street, and the areas about the building and walkways for these will be mowed routinely. Connect upper and lowermowed lawns by strolling along a winding path.
WE NEED POLLINATORS TO SURVIVE! Insects, such as the honeybee, wasp, and bumblebee feed on a flower’s nectar while involuntarily collecting pollen. They cross pollinate plants that, in turn, help to create the foods we eat.
